Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be graduates of medical schools and have completed their surgical training.
- Applicants must be at least 35 years old but younger than 50 when the completed application is filed.
- Applicants must submit their applications from their intended permanent location. Applications will be accepted only when the applicants have engaged in surgical practice, teaching, or research for at least one year at their intended permanent location after completing all formal training, including fellowships and scholarships.
- Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and/or research according to the standards of their home country.
- Early-career surgeons are preferred over those holding senior academic positions.
- Applicants must submit a fully completed application form provided by the College on its website. A curriculum vitae alone is not acceptable.
- Applicants must provide a list of all publications and submit three complete publications (reprints or manuscripts) from that list.
- Preference may be given to applicants without prior training or surgical fellowships in the U.S. or Canada.
- Applicants must submit independently prepared recommendation letters from three colleagues. One letter must be from the chair of the department where they hold an academic appointment or a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons residing in their country. The chair’s or Fellow’s letter must detail the applicant’s teaching and academic involvement.
- The online application form assists the Scholarship Selection Subcommittee and the applicant in submitting a structured curriculum vitae.
- The International Guest Scholarships must be utilized in the designated year and cannot be deferred.
- Scholarship recipients must provide a comprehensive written report of their experiences upon completing their tours.
